I'm a huge fan of adaptogens. I first heard about them on Dave Asprey's Bulletproof podcast and have been hooked ever since. Adaptogens have been used for hundreds of years in Chinese medicine and have played an important role in helping me manage my anxiety and fatigue.

Arming yourself with the right snacks when you are starting to implement a healthy lifestyle is incredibly important. You want to be sure to set yourself up for success so that you aren't tempted by all of the processed, pre-packaged junk that's out there. Especially during the holidays!
Have you ever heard that saying "I'll sleep when I'm dead"? I caught myself saying that a few years back almost as if it were a badge of honor. It's like I was saying it to prove to people that I was working harder, longer hours and on my way to big success. In my head less sleep = more hours in the day to get stuff done which meant more productivity and in turn, more success. Makes sense, right?
7 surprising health tips that will instantly make you feel better.

Why do most diets fail? Because many of the foods that we eat today are biologically addictive. That means that our food is so chemically engineered that it tricks our brains into thinking that our stomach needs more. This brings me to our current view on diets and of those who are overweight and obese. Do Americans simply have a complete lack of willpower or is food addiction a real thing?
Have you lost weight only to find it creeping back a few months later? Or did you promise yourself that you'd commit to a new "diet" on Monday only to find yourself elbow deep in a box of cookies on Wednesday night? If you know me, then you know that I have a serious coffee addiction. It all started back when I was about 12 years old. I was always so much taller than everyone else in my grade and couldn't help but be really embarrassed about it. I had long limbs and seemed to trip over anything and everything on the playground. Not cool.
Tomorrow I leave for Hawaii, so this surf and sun girl is really excited. I grew up by the ocean and almost aways in water, so needless to say I can't wait to get some salt and sun in my hair. Oh, and get a little bit of vacay time in too!
To get myself as bikini ready as possible, (which can be quite a feat right after the holidays) I followed my quick 5 day "cleanse" protocol.
As promised, here is a follow up post with details from my weekend.
Bone broth is an ancient food remedy that has been around for thousands of years. I'm sure you remember your grandma telling you to eat chicken soup if you were coming down with a cold or feeling sick, right? Well, most soup nowadays is full of processed noodles and antibiotic filled meat that will probably end up doing more harm than good. But, the idea that soup heals you has its roots in truth.
Back in the 80's scientists recommended that the US adopt a low fat, low calorie diet in order to lose weight. Unfortunately, the very next year obesity skyrocketed and has continued to climb steadily ever since. Why exactly did this happen? “Fat calories speed up your metabolism. Fats have to be burned. They don’t spike insulin and aren’t easily stored in the body”, Dr Mark Hyman explains.
Eating at airports normally isn't very fun. Like I mentioned in my last post, I try to travel with as many snacks and meals as possible and also do my best to eat before I have a long travel day. But, life happens and sometimes you've just gotta eat!
This week I'm leaving on a four day business trip to Orlando, Florida. I'm going to be up early, getting to bed late and running at 100 miles per minute. With that in mind, I'm doing my best to prepare by bringing quality snacks and foods with me.
When most people begin implementing healthier choices into their lives they think that it means no alcohol of any kind, ever again. I’m a firm believer that you need to enjoy your life to be healthy and for many people that includes a drink or two. Now, I’m not saying that you can’t enjoy life without alcohol or that hitting the bar is healthier than going on a hike or getting to bed early, but for most of us, it’s an integral part of our social lives and can be enjoyed moderately.
Sugar is one of the worst things we can put into our bodies. Fat Chance author Dr. Robert Lustig actually called it "the Voldemort of the dietary hit list." But, cutting sugar from your diet isn't as simple as we might think. Sugar is added to SO many different foods, including foods that you wouldn't even expect.
Aspartame and other artificial sweeteners like splenda and sweet n’ low are primarily marketed to diabetics and people that are trying to lose weight. But, contrary to what we’ve been led to believe, artificial sweeteners can cause weight gain, insulin sensitivity, and even increase your chances of getting Alzheimers. Yes, I know, so scary.
Butter? Healthy? This sounds like madness you say! Welp, I'm here to tell you that it's actually one of the most nutrient dense, healing fats you can put into your body.
